Narrowboat charter in Liverpool area and driving tour of Scotland

Runcorn Jubilee B&B

We deliberately arrived a day early in the area so we could have a bit more time to recover from jet lag.

After searching on the web for a place to stay near where we pick up our narrowboat & be close to Liverpool, Catherine found a great B&B in the village of Runcorn.

One of the things I like best about traveling is the wonderful people we meet along the way. Pauline & Terry are the proprietors of Jubilee B&B in Runcorn. Terry’s sister Susan greeted us the day we arrived and suggested things to see & do in Runcorn & Liverpool. They all looked after us wonderfully.

In his previous career Terry was a safety specialist in the oil industry & lived & worked in the Middle East & in Louisiana, USA. With several things in common we had a great time trading stories about our life adventures.

If you are ever in or passing near Runcorn & need a nice place to stay, then this is the place to come.

Liverpool Magical Mystery Tour

Being so close to Liverpool Catherine & I had to see a bit of the Fab 4’s hometown before we lefts the area.

Catherine found a tour company on line that specializes in Beatles tours so we signed up for their Magical Mystery Tour!

We deliberately chose a smaller tour bus so we could feel like we were in less of a crowd & have a better opportunity to ask questions & learn more. It was very interesting to see where each of the Beatles grew up as kids & to learn how fate brought them together as teenagers.

Our tour guide Ross was great & he had lots of stories & interesting facts to share with us about their early childhood lives & how it influenced their perspectives & their music.

Liverpool is a great city with a lot to offer. We hope to have the opportunity to come back someday & spend more time sightseeing.

Our First Pub Stop In the UK

Yesterday afternoon we flew from Toronto to Atlanta & then overnight from Atlanta to Manchester. We landed at 8:00am local time.

Not much sleep on the trip across the ocean – we were too excited! Next were a series of trains from Manchester Airport to the Village of Runcorn (near Liverpool). That was an adventure all on its own but people were really friendly & helpful with directions & we finally made it to our B&B.

The proprietor suggested we walk about a mile up the road to a local pub called “The Prospect” that is known for its hospitality, atmosphere & good food. We got here about 3:30, ordered a draft & then decided what to eat for an early supper. The barmaid said “sorry love, but the kitchen doesn’t open ’till 5”.

So here we are outside the pub enjoying a beautiful late summer day & watching the minutes tick by ’till the kitchen opens. It won’t be long now.

Cheers everyone!
