Liverpool Magical Mystery Tour

Being so close to Liverpool Catherine & I had to see a bit of the Fab 4’s hometown before we lefts the area.

Catherine found a tour company on line that specializes in Beatles tours so we signed up for their Magical Mystery Tour!

We deliberately chose a smaller tour bus so we could feel like we were in less of a crowd & have a better opportunity to ask questions & learn more. It was very interesting to see where each of the Beatles grew up as kids & to learn how fate brought them together as teenagers.

Our tour guide Ross was great & he had lots of stories & interesting facts to share with us about their early childhood lives & how it influenced their perspectives & their music.

Liverpool is a great city with a lot to offer. We hope to have the opportunity to come back someday & spend more time sightseeing.

Our First Pub Stop In the UK

Yesterday afternoon we flew from Toronto to Atlanta & then overnight from Atlanta to Manchester. We landed at 8:00am local time.

Not much sleep on the trip across the ocean – we were too excited! Next were a series of trains from Manchester Airport to the Village of Runcorn (near Liverpool). That was an adventure all on its own but people were really friendly & helpful with directions & we finally made it to our B&B.

The proprietor suggested we walk about a mile up the road to a local pub called “The Prospect” that is known for its hospitality, atmosphere & good food. We got here about 3:30, ordered a draft & then decided what to eat for an early supper. The barmaid said “sorry love, but the kitchen doesn’t open ’till 5”.

So here we are outside the pub enjoying a beautiful late summer day & watching the minutes tick by ’till the kitchen opens. It won’t be long now.

Cheers everyone!

A Glorious Sunset In Goderich

The Town of Goderich prides itself on many things, including beautiful sunsets.

I took this shot with my iPhone a couple of weeks ago. It’s not often you see the rays of the sun split up as the sun dips below the horizon. A fitting end to a beautiful day.

The only thing that could have made this better was if we were on the lake viewing it from Ananda’s deck!

Bird’s Eye View

I’m a little bit behind in my blogging – getting ready for our next adventure – which starts today!

Here’s a couple of photos that Paul Carrol, a fellow member of Goderich Yacht Club took a few weeks ago of a falcon perched on the windex on top of my main mast.

The bird sat there for 5-10 minutes before moving to another perch on another dockmate’s mast.

Thankfully the windex is still working. That bird is a lot more comfortable at that height than I am!

Cheers & thanks Paul for the great photos!

Ananda’s Cruise – Map & Videos

Ahoy again! Here is a summary map of our cruise and some links to a couple of short videos that I took on the way from Kilarney to Tobermory and from Tobermory to Goderich. Click on the image below to see it full size.

The Kilarney to Tobermory part of our cruise on August 17 was mostly rain and wind and medium sized waves. Not scary stuff but we were glad when we reached Tobermory. Here’s a link to a few minutes of video that I took and have now posted on my YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/RnSwYkkf014
The Tobermory to Goderich part of our cruise the next day (August 18) was beautiful, sunny and with just the right amount of wind to do some great motorsailing! Here’s a link to this video that took and have now posted on my YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/t0TQnp0lgUQ
