Ananda’s cruise from Goderich to Green Bay, Wisconsin

A Glorious Sunset In Goderich

The Town of Goderich prides itself on many things, including beautiful sunsets.

I took this shot with my iPhone a couple of weeks ago. It’s not often you see the rays of the sun split up as the sun dips below the horizon. A fitting end to a beautiful day.

The only thing that could have made this better was if we were on the lake viewing it from Ananda’s deck!

Bird’s Eye View

I’m a little bit behind in my blogging – getting ready for our next adventure – which starts today!

Here’s a couple of photos that Paul Carrol, a fellow member of Goderich Yacht Club took a few weeks ago of a falcon perched on the windex on top of my main mast.

The bird sat there for 5-10 minutes before moving to another perch on another dockmate’s mast.

Thankfully the windex is still working. That bird is a lot more comfortable at that height than I am!

Cheers & thanks Paul for the great photos!

Ananda’s Cruise – Map & Videos

Ahoy again! Here is a summary map of our cruise and some links to a couple of short videos that I took on the way from Kilarney to Tobermory and from Tobermory to Goderich. Click on the image below to see it full size.

The Kilarney to Tobermory part of our cruise on August 17 was mostly rain and wind and medium sized waves. Not scary stuff but we were glad when we reached Tobermory. Here’s a link to a few minutes of video that I took and have now posted on my YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/RnSwYkkf014
The Tobermory to Goderich part of our cruise the next day (August 18) was beautiful, sunny and with just the right amount of wind to do some great motorsailing! Here’s a link to this video that took and have now posted on my YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/t0TQnp0lgUQ

2016 Cruise Summary

Ahoy there! I’ve taken a few days off my blogging to rest up and to get caught up with my family and all of the things that have been put “on hold” while we were on our cruise.

For those of you who are interested, here’s a summary of our travels. (click on the image below and it will open up much larger in a new screen)

I would also like to give a “Tip of My Hat” to my chartplotter software “TIKI Navigator” and its creator, Fred Jenssen.

TIKI has made my travels much easier than they would have been if I had navigated by using only paper charts or by using another digital electronic chart system. TIKI Navigator is a laptop based system that is simple to use and very intuitive. I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a chartplotter system for their own boat. You can find out more about TIKI by following this link: http://www.tiki-navigator.com/English/default.htm (copy & paste it into your browser).(click on the image below and it will open up much larger in a new screen)

Back “Home” In Goderich

43°44′31″ N 81°43′25″ W

We are now back in Goderich and tied up to “our” dock at Maitland Valley Marina. This is our “final” destination (at least for now!).

We entered the channel to the marina at 8:15 pm and were tied up on the dock by 8:25. Just before the sunset.

Above is a photo of the sunset shining down the channel that leads to the marina. It’s as if the setting sun is showing us the way to our dock.

We traveled approximately 95 nm today from Tobermory in about 12 1/2 hours. The day was perfect and the wind and the gentle swells on the lake seemed to be pushing Ananda towards Goderich all day long. It’s as if she couldn’t wait to get home!

We have had some wonderful adventures over the past several weeks but like any other travelers we are also glad to get home.

I am really looking forward to seeing Catherine and Emily and Jeanne (Catherine’s mom). It will also be very nice to be able to sit in a chair that is perfectly still for as long as I want.

Ananda was perfect throughout this entire trip. I would not hesitate to set out tomorrow morning for the east coast or the Caribbean islands. However, I have a wife and a life here that I love very dearly so this is where I’ll be staying – at least for a few weeks and then Catherine and I will be off on an adventure to the United Kingdom to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary! I’ll be most certainly blogging about that, so don’t go too far away from your computer or tablet 😀.

Tomorrow I will start to assemble some statistics about the entire trip that Chris and I have just completed. I will post them on the blog site for anyone who is interested in that kind of stuff.

Thanks everyone for following us on this adventure. I really appreciate your comments, questions and encouragement.

Cheers!
