Alternator Extraction!

Several days ago the engine alternator stopped working. Not sure what caused this to happen but I suspect that it might have been damaged when we were working on the cooling system a few weeks & some antifreeze was spilled on it.

I called around Sturgeon Bay to try & find a replacement but had no luck locally. Fortunately I found a shop in Green Bay City that rebuilds alternators & also sells new & reconditioned units. This particular alternator for the boat is not widely used so the shop ordered one in for me. Their shop is only a short distance from the marina so I’ll take a cab over there this morning & pick it up. At the same time I’ll have them take a quick look at my original unit to see if it’s worth rebuilding.

I removed the alternator yesterday after the engine had cooled down. Even so, it was hot, sweaty work in very tight quarters. My “reward” for this effort was a nice cool shower followed by an icy Margarita.
