Night Passage to Egg Harbor

We spent the day in Northport waiting for a mechanic to look at the alternator. When he arrived his prognosis was not good. After several tests he pronounced it to be “kaput”.

We determined that the Honda generator that we had on board was more than capable of providing ample power to run Ananda’s 110v battery charger.

The wind, wave & weather forecast for tonight & tomorrow is really favorable to us so we have decided to make an overnight passage to Egg Harbor. That will give us more time with Bo & Molly & it will also give us more time to resolve the alternator issues.

I think Chris is ready to go!

Alternator Issues = A Late Start Today

Late yesterday afternoon we noticed that the alternator was not charging the batteries. We were only about 30 minutes away from our destination so we shut off our autopilot (a big energy user) and continued to our destination.

By the time we arrived and got tied up at the dock we were too tired to troubleshoot the alternator problem – plus the engine was pretty hot to work around.

This morning I found a loose ground connection on one of the batteries and hoped that that would solve the problem. Unfortunately it has not.

I have called the local marine service yard and asked them to send over a mechanic. Hopefully he can quickly identify & resolve the problem & we can get underway again.

Stay tuned & keep your fingers crossed for us!
