Anchored in Nicolet Bay, WI

45°10′9″ N 87°13′10″ W

We anchored in Nicolet Bay, WI. at 4:30pm today. It was a pretty easy passage from Green Bay City.

There are about a dozen other power & sailboats in the bay with us. There’s a bit of a breeze to keep us cool & to keep the bugs away. We will stay here for the night & head to an anchorage in Beaver Island tomorrow.

Cheers!

Green Bay City represents the turn around point in our trip. We had originally hoped to get to Chicago for a few days after visiting with Bo & Molly but that would have added about another 400-500 miles to our overall trip & that would have also pressed us for time once we started out for home (i e. Goderich).

We would much rather take our time heading home & Chris has a lot of neat places he wants to show me in the North Channel. So off to the north we go!

Here is a statistical summary of our trip from Goderich to Green Bay City:

0 – Days of rain/ bad weather since leaving Goderich
14 – Days since leaving Goderich
9 – Days actually traveling
850 – Kilometers traveled
460 – Nautical miles traveled
72 – Hours of actual traveling time
6.4 / 11.8 – Average speed (Knots / kph)
90 IG / 410 L – Approximate fuel consumption (at approximately 1.25 IG per hour)
5.1 / 48.2 – Approximate fuel efficiency (Nautical miles per Imperial gallon / liters per 100 km)
0 – Number of cans of spam consumed
0 – Number of times I have shaved since leaving Goderich
Lost count – Number of laughs & good times

Cheers everyone & thanks for following us!

Green Bay Packers – Lambeau Field

After I picked up the new alternator in Green Bay Chris & I decided to do some exploring around the city. It was too hot outside to work on the engine so we decided to go and tour Lambeau Field, the home of the Green Bay Packers football team.

We had no transportation from the marina so we called a cab. We waited almost 45 minutes for the cab to arrive & then with our patience exhausted Chris asked a local boater in the marina if he could help us out. “Dave” was happy to drive us all the way out to the stadium. We offered him money for gas but he refused–asking that we simply pass on the word that people in Green Bay are friendly & welcoming to visitors–especially Packers fans! We’re very happy to do that! And I hope I will have an opportunity to return the favor to Dave some day.

Lambeau Field is an amazing place. It is named after “Curly” Lambeau, the founder of the football team (which was founded in the early 1900’s). Tours are given daily & Chris & I took one of the more detailed tours that goes all the way from the roof right down to the basement. After touring this facility & learning more about the football club & its illustrious history, it’s easy to understand why their fans & supporters are so passionate about the game & their team.

If you are ever in the Green Bay Area I encourage you to go to the stadium & take a tour. We even got to go right down onto field level & walk along the sidelines. I’d love to see a game there sometime.

Go Pack Go!

Alternator Update

44°32′21″ N 87°59′58″ W

Monday morning I took a cab over to Green Bay Rebuilders to pick up a new alternator that they ordered in for me. I also brought the “old” alternator along so they could remove the drive belt pulley from it & install it on the new alternator.

While I was there they took the old unit apart to see what was wrong & they found that the slip ring for the brushes was improperly installed by whoever rebuilt that unit. As a result the brushes wore unevenly & as soon as one of the brushes could no longer make proper contact it stopped working. The technician did a quick repair and the alternator is working just fine again. I didn’t even need a new part!

So, now I have a brand new alternator installed on the engine & I will keep the old unit on board as a spare.

I was really impressed by the service I received from this company and would recommend them to anyone who needs this type of work done.
